"The Next Generation of Reliable CFD Meshing"
Mr. John R. Chawner, President, Pointwise, Inc.

Gridgen is the culmination of 22 years of CFD meshing software research and development. Its next generation is the new Pointwise software. Pointwise's modern GUI and improved interactivity simplify and streamline CAD geometry preprocessing, mesh generation, and CFD solver compatibility.

10:45 - 11:30

"CFD and its Increased Importance in Aircraft Modifications"
Dr. Todd L. Henderson, Principle Engineer,
L-3 Communications/ Integrated Systems

The recent progress in computing power, continued decline in the price of computing, and tool improvements have greatly broadened the industries that can cost effectively utilize CFD. The aircraft modification industry is one such area. This presentation will describe how low cost, quick turnaround CFD has influenced work at L-3 Communications/IS.

11:30 - 12:00

" Aerodynamic Analysis of a Formula Car Using Large-Scale LES on Earth Simulator "*
Mr. Makoto Tsubokura, PhD,
Department of Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Systems,
The University of Electro-Communications

A fully unstructured finite volume LES code (FrontFlow/Red), which was developed under the project "Revolutionary Simulation Software-RSS21" sponsored by MEXT, has been optimized to be executed on the Earth Simulator (ES), and a large-scale LES of turbulent flow around a formula car was conducted by using a mesh data with 120 million elements. Details of the analysis, including pre- and post-processes that used Gridgen and FieldView are discussed.

12:00 - 12:30

"Use of CFD Technology in Aircraft Design"*
Mr. Akio Ochi. Assistant Manager
Aerodynamics Section. Aerospace Research Department,
Engineering Division, Aerospace Company,
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.

Use of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) in design of aircrafts at Kawasaki Heavy Industries is introduced. Discussion includes KHI's CFD analysis processes and some examples.

12:30 - 13:45 Lunch / Demonstration

Advanced CFD Session 2

13:45 - 14:30

"Enhanced functions of FieldView 11.1 for large data handling"*
Masaya Tani, CFD Technical Division, VINAS Co., Ltd.

New features of FieldView Version 11.1, including the enhanced handling of large data in FieldView Parallel, are introduced, as well as a FieldView's user application example.

"Post-processing Techniques for Large, Unsteady CFD Datasets"
Mr. Steve M. Legensky, Founder and General Manager,Intelligent Light

Large-scale, time-dependent CFD simulations of complex configurations have become increasingly critical in aerospace and automotive design. Post-processing and data management techniques for such huge data sets will be presented, focusing on reliability and easy operation.

14:30 - 15:15

"Vehicle development at Volvo Cars using Computational Fluid Dynamics"
Mr. Anders Jonson, Senior CFD Engineer,
Thermodynamics., Volvo Car Corporation, Fluid Dynamics Center

At Volvo Cars, CFD has become an integral part of the engineering and design optimization process. Examples of CFD applications, ranging from everyday tasks to future challenges will be presented and discussed.

15:15 - 15:30 Coffee Break/Demonstration
15:30 - 16:00

"Current issues and future prospects of fluid analyses for automobile development"*
Mr. Jiro Takamitsu, Group Manager,
Advanced CAE Div., Toyota Motor Corporation

CFD (Computational fluid dynamics) technology is used to determine the effects of exterior and interior design of automobiles to their performance. This session introduces application examples of CFD in the studies of exterior aerodynamics and interior climate control, as well as current issues and developments surrounding the study areas.

16:00 - 16:30

"CFD for performance evaluation of steam turbines"*
Dr. Shigeki Senoo, Senior Researcher,
Power & Industrial Systems, R&D Laboratory,Hitachi, Ltd.

Hitachi Ltd. develops highly efficient steam turbines by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In this session, some examples of CFD results with FieldView are introduced.

16:30 - 17:00

"Using FINE/Turbo in design of counter rotating axial fan turbo jet engine for small-scale supersonic aircraft"*
Mr. Ryojiro Minato, PhD,
Aerospace Plane Research Center ,(Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering), Muroran Institute of Technology

Aerospace Plane Research Center in Muroran Institute of Technology is proceeding with the development of small scale turbo jet engine using counter rotating axial fan. This session introduces use of FINE/Turbo for achieving optimum design in this development project.

17:00 - 17:15 Coffee Break/Demonstration
Keynote Speech
17:15 - 18:00

Special Session
"Computational Biomechanical Analysis of the Blood Flow and Recurrent Education for the Engineering Enhanced Medicine"*
Prof. Takami Yamaguchi, MD PhD
Department of Bioengineering and Robotics,
Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University

Computational analysis of the blood flow is mandatory to study the pathogenesis and the development of therapeutic measures of various vascular diseases including cerebral stroke and cardiac infarction, two leading causes of death in industrialized world. To implement this to the medical engineering field, engineers who understand biology as well as technology must be educated. In the lecture, following a discussion on the computational biomechanical studies, we introduce an attempt of recurrent education for the development of engineering enhanced medicine (REDEEM).
