Introduction

Turbomachinery engineers who are engaged in CFD analyses are required to perform various tasks from traditional blade row analysis to detailed performance evaluation and design optimization involving large-scale and unsteady models. Technologies such as automation of pre/post processes and new methods of analysis calculation are assisting engineers in improving work efficiency by speeding up the design cycle and increasing accuracy of analyses. At the same time, companies that are developing new turbomachinery are adopting a long term perspective for accumulating know-how in CFD analysis, cycle analysis, flow design, mechanical design, blade aerodynamic design, structural analysis, rotor dynamics, and so on.

VINAS is hosting "Turbomachinery CFD Design Forum 2008" in January 2008. In this seminar, we are going to showcase the latest version of the turbomachinery fluid and thermal analysis system FINE/Turbo V8, and advanced application examples including unsteady analysis of jet engine by Rolls-Royce, optimization of turbo charger by Honeywell Turbo Technologies, and cavitation analysis of rocket pump by Snecma, INPL and LEGI. We will also describe our consulting service for turbomachinery design, which supports 1D, 2D and 3D design of turbomachinery, as well as our turbomachinery design automation system in which pre and post processes are highly automated and a system that assists design optimization.

We hope to see you in the seminar.

Axial gas turbine cooling blade
- AutoGrid5 V8
Automated full hexahedral grid generation software for turbomachinery
(Developed by: NUMECA International [Belgium])
AutoGrid5 allows designers to automatically generate high quality turbomachinery mesh that could normally be generated by highly skilled experts only. It supports mesh generation of all kinds of turbomachinery including turbochargers, jet engines, pumps, wind turbines and multi-stage models and significantly speeds up mesh generation and analysis cycle.

- Turbo Reporter V2
Automatic report generation system of turbomachinery design calculation
(Developed by: VINAS Co., Ltd.)
Turbo Reporter V2 is an add-on program for FieldView. It automates evaluation process of turbomachinery CFD design and allows shearing of experts' evaluation know-how, making it possible to accurately understand fluid flow and improve efficiency of development work.
